Women's Prison Ministry
I've had several engagements in my ministry over the years. I've spoken before various audiences. Men church groups, women conferences, teens, singles, senior citizens, couples... however, I had never spoken before a crowd of female inmates in a prison. It was a pleasant and great experience. The Mountain View choir went, along with some supportive members of the Mountain view church. I have to say that getting into that facility was just as challenging as getting into the terminal at an international airport. Once we cleared security we walked in and to my surprise... apart from the the triple layered barbed-wire fence there was nothing about that facility that looked like a jail but the fact that all the women inmates were in the same uniform. I was glad to see that the conditions were not inhumane. Upon arriving at the chapel where the services were to be held... the women let out a thunderous applause. They were excited and anxious for us to be there and eagerly awaiting us.
The worship service was beautiful. The women shed tears, some had their hands lifted, others were smiling and nodding their head in agreement. All in all it was a good experience. I am convinced that they left a greater impact on me than I had on them. God bless them. God bless us all.
